Picenos was presented through two initiatives: through the Picenos Colors cocktails, focusing on a more informal and emotional involvement and through a more technical illustration provided by the individual producers, who illustrated their labels and their working methods in detail. To be pointed out is also our participation in the remarkably interesting seminar held on June 20^th totally dedicated to wines of the Marche region.

Now at its 45th edition, Vinitaly is the largest trade fare in the world dedicated to wine and one of the most important worldwide.
The event – which will take place at the exhibition centre of Verona from 7th to 11th April 2011 – brings together wine producers, distributors, enthusiasts as well as the press from right across the globe. It will also be a great opportunity to meet, discover and get to know the companies belonging to the Vini Piceni consortium.

We will be at Pavilion 7 where you can taste the great DOC Piceno wines and enjoy the world of flavours and aromas that they represent.

Special event: from 7th to 10th April, from 4pm to 6pm, in the Marche region area, you will also be able to taste the lively ‘Picenos Colors’, cocktails inspired by the amazing colours of this land and prepared with bases of Rosso Piceno, Pecorino and Passerina. A wonderful experience not to be missed.

Six exhibitors of the consortium participated in the event, all with the same image to highlight the distinctive mutual spirit of the associate producers.

Our stands were visited at a good level, in terms of both numbers and quality.

During this fair, the consortium’s exhibitors also took part in an event in which our wines were offered to 70 special guests. The wine tasting event was presented by a very important journalist for the wine sector of HK and China (Mr Lau Chi Sun), who commented on our wine products and how to accompany them with top quality Chinese food, such as, lacquered duck and rice ravioli for example.

The two experts who attended were Doctor Simeon J. Kanis – Director of Promozione Italia – Editors Credits Media B.V (wine-tourism expert, former ENIT of Amsterdam, editor of a well-known wine-tourism magazine distributed in Holland and Germany) and Mrs. Heleen Schreuder – Owner of Italent B.V.and organizer of wine and food workshops and of the event entitled Italia al Dente (ICE consultant of Amsterdam for the selection of wine buyers).

The “Vini Piceno” Consortium, was invited by “Piceno Promozione” to act as reference contact for the Dutch experts with regard to the wine sector.

A technical wine tasting event took place on October 20^th c/o “Vinea” to identify which types of wine are most suitable for the Dutch market in terms of both taste and price, as well as to discuss packaging and labelling.

The Dutch experts later agreed to visit some local producers of wine, olives and typical produce of this area.

To end the two days visiting our district, a workshop was held c/o the local Chamber of Commerce with technical reference contacts of the district and marketing experts in order to define a sales strategy of local products in Holland, which will be implemented throughout 2011.

Successful tasting at the Tasting table set-up by forty enterprises within the trade fair and in the cloister of the Regional Wine Centre (“Enoteca Regionale”), which recorded a rise of 20% of paying visitors compared to 2009; the tasting events offered by AIS on the charming terrace of the building was also a success.

Summing the visitors of the various sections in which the event was organised (Tasting table, dinner at Osteria del Chiostro, Ais wine centre, Bocca di Bacco wine bar and market of typical local agricultural and food produce set-up in Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Vallorani) an impressive figure of 25.000 units was recorded, the best success ever.

“Important figures – the president of Vinea, Ido Perozzi pointed out – that prove that more and more people are approaching the world of wine, especially youngsters. In addition to the public, I would however like to point out that Di Vino in Vino is not just an event dedicated to the finished product of the enterprises, but is also an important opportunity to exchange information, as was proven by the opening meeting where the state of health of the enterprises was discussed, as well as the need for a strong and effective promotional action and new promotional instruments.

After its initial difficulties, the activities of the “Consorzio di Tutela Vini Piceni” (consortium that safeguards wines of the Piceno region) are progressing at full rate and we can think of a joint action between Vinea and the consortium to change the marketing policy of wines of the Piceno region. In particular, confirming the consolidated trend of the past several years, with an exponential growth in the number of people that become interested in wine, we need to expand the participation of our wines not just to exclusively oenology meetings and trade fairs but also to other events around Italy that attract hundreds of thousands of visitors.

This action will be effective if it is promoted by all those involved, Vinea, the Consortium and producers.

A strong and innovative promotional campaign could allow us to close the circle of all the work commenced years ago with considerable investments made in the vineyards and in the cellars, which obtained excellent production results, especially in terms of quality.”



Sixteen of the consortium’s producers took part in the event.

Throughout the event, over 6 thousand glasses of wine were tasted, consecrating the bond between blue fish and Piceno wines, especially Pecorino and Passerina which, served at the right temperature, were the most popular choice of the Palazzurro wine cellar, where all the wines were provided for the occasion by member producers of the “Vini Piceni” Consortium.
